The camera obscuraThe camera obscura meaning darkened chamber/room in Latin is the idea of having an optical device that will project the surrounding world through a small pinhole onto a screen. However as the light from an external scene travels through the pinhole, the image is projected upside down on the screen. This is because the light from the top of the external object and the bottom meet at the pinhole and continue to cross over resulting in the screen being upside down. You can get them to face the right way up using mirrors inside the construction; also some use a lens rather than a pinhole as a bigger aperture as. Then you can have better brightness and a steady focus.

Camera obscura images
My favourite image out of these would have to be the upside down one in the bedroom which is in black and white. It looks so surreal when something is projected with a camera obscura when you are looking at the picture you almost forget its a room. It works very well and I think any projection of that size has that affect of amazement on the viewer. If this sort of photography can be incorporated into work and can look really good If I make any similar images with a pinhole camera It should look very abstract.
